1. Introduction
First Furlong is a free horse racing education app. You can use all educational content without an account. Optional free accounts allow you to save your Form Scanner history. This policy explains what data we collect and how it is used.
2. Information We Collect
Usage Analytics (Vercel Analytics)
Anonymous, aggregated data including pages visited, device type, and general location (country/state level). No personally identifiable information. Cannot be used to identify you.
Contact Form (Formspree)
If you submit the contact form on our About page, your name, email address, and message are processed by Formspree (formspree.io) and forwarded to us. We only use this to respond to your enquiry.
Account Information (Optional)
If you create an account, we collect your email address and an encrypted password. Accounts are entirely optional — all educational content is available without one. Your account data is stored securely by Supabase in their Sydney, Australia (ap-southeast-2) region.
Scan History
When you use the Form Scanner while signed in, we save a summary of the scan results (race information, runner details, and image quality rating) to your account. The original image you upload is NOT stored — it is sent to our AI provider for analysis and discarded immediately after processing. Scan history is only saved for signed-in users. Anonymous scans are not recorded.
Form Scanner Image Processing (Anthropic API)
When you use the Form Scanner, your uploaded image is sent to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. The image is used solely to extract form guide information and is not stored by First Furlong. Anthropic does not use API inputs for model training. See Anthropic's privacy policy for their full data handling practices.
Progress Tracking
Your learning progress is stored locally on your device using browser localStorage. This data never leaves your device and we have no access to it. If you create an account, your learning progress is currently stored locally. Cloud sync may be added in future.
3. Information We Do NOT Collect

Google (authentication) — if you sign in with Google, your email address and account identifier are shared with Google as part of the OAuth authentication flow. policies.google.com/privacy
Apple (authentication) — if you sign in with Apple, your email address and account identifier are shared with Apple as part of the OAuth authentication flow. If you choose Apple's "Hide My Email" feature, a private relay email address is used instead of your personal email. apple.com/legal/privacy
These services have their own privacy policies. We encourage you to review them.
5. Cookies and Local Storage
We do not use tracking cookies. We use browser localStorage to save your in-app learning progress on your own device. If you create an account, Supabase stores a session token in your browser's localStorage to keep you signed in. This is not a tracking cookie — it is solely for authentication.
6. Data Retention
Contact form enquiries are retained only as long as needed to respond. Analytics data is retained per Vercel's standard policy. Local progress data remains on your device until you clear your browser/app data. Account data and scan history are retained until you delete your account. When you delete your account, all associated data (email, scan history) is permanently and immediately deleted.
7. Your Rights (Australian Privacy Act 1988)
Under Australian privacy law, you may request access to or deletion of any personal information we hold. If you have an account, you can view your saved scan history on the Form Scanner page and delete your account and all associated data at any time from the Account page (see Section 8). Deletion is immediate and permanent. For other enquiries, use the contact form on our About page.
8. Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from the Account page. This permanently removes your email address and all saved scan history. Deletion is immediate — we do not retain your data after deletion. This complies with Apple App Store Review Guideline 5.1.1(v).

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
